Over 100 Hertford Regional College apprentices gained their awards at the Work-based Learning Celebration of Success Award Evening held at Ware Priory on 23rd October. Apprenticeship programmes give employers the opportunity to develop a skilled workforce. Apprentices learn through a combination of on and off the job learning. On the job they work alongside staff, off the job they attend a local learning provider, such as Hertford Regional College (usually on a day release basis) working towards nationally recognised qualifications.
Apprenticeships ensure that employees have the practical skills and qualifications required by the business or organisation now and in the future. Martin Palmer, Health and Safety Adviser for Marcoe Electrical Ltd currently has 12 apprentices on programme and would recommend it to others. The benefits of such a training programme “help sustain a growing workforce, and help the company progress by passing on knowledge.”
Tina Matthews, Headteacher at Hurst Drive Primary School comments: “As well as being a welcome addition to the school community it is a pleasure to see students blossom and develop. They have supported groups of children in their learning, taken part in school events and given us fresh perspectives in the staffroom.”
